If you are new to Call of Dragons, the first thing you are asked to do before you even begin the game is choose a starting faction.
There are three factions to choose from in Call of Dragons: League of Order, Wilderburg, and Springwardens. Each one comes with its own unique city design, starting hero, faction bonuses, and a signature unit type.
They also have distinct visual styles: League of Order is human-themed, Springwardens are elf-based, and Wilderburg represents the orcs.
While the factions are fairly well balanced, the one you pick can affect your early and mid-game strategy quite a bit. In this guide, we’ll break down which factions are best at different stages of the game, and highlight the heroes you’ll get with each to help you make the right choice.
Best Early Game Faction
For the early game, the League of Order is generally the best faction to start with. Their 10% gathering speed bonus is incredibly useful for collecting resources quickly, allowing you to upgrade buildings and research technology faster. This helps boost your power growth early on, keeping you competitive with other players.
You’ll also unlock the Workhorses as your special unit, which have increased load capacity. This means you can gather more resources with fewer troops, which is a big advantage when your army size is still limited in the early game.
On top of that, the 3% magic defence bonus is a nice boost for early-season PvP. If you decide to pick up Liliya, one of the strongest heroes in the game, this bonus makes her even more powerful.
Starting Heroes
Waldyr – League of Order
Waldyr is the first magic hero you’ll unlock in Call of Dragons. He’s the best epic mage hero in the game. He’s got access to the Magic, Skills, and PvP talent trees, so he works well in both PvE and PvP. If you pick League of Order as your starting faction, most storyline quests will give you his tokens, meaning you can expertise him pretty quickly. Pairing Waldyr with Liliya is a good choice for a strong early-game magic damage march.
Gwanwyn – Springwardens
Gwanwyn is an epic marksman hero with the Marksman, Peacekeeping, and Precision talent trees. She’s great early on for Darkling and Behemoth hunting thanks to her peacekeeping talents, and if you pair her with Nico, you’ll have a decent PvP march as well. Choosing Springwardens as your faction will give you her tokens through story quests, so expertising her early is easy.
Bakhar – Wilderburg
Bakhar is an epic infantry hero tied to the Wilderburg faction. He’s generally seen as the weakest starter out of the three, but he can still help you get your first infantry march going. He has the Infantry, Garrison, and Skills talent trees, and his tokens also come from story quests if you go with Wilderburg.

Best Mid-Late Game Factions
For the mid to late game, many players choose to switch to Springwardens or Wilderburg.
Springwardens offer a 5% healing bonus and a 5% march speed increase, both of which are incredibly useful in large-scale battles. They also unlock powerful flying marksman units, making them a popular choice for players who focus on marksman heroes.
Wilderburg, on the other hand, is ideal for infantry-focused players. Their 3% physical attack bonus gives a nice edge in big fights, while the 10% building engineering bonus makes it much faster to construct alliance towers, a huge advantage when trying to gain territory.
Changing Factions
You can change factions at any time if your playstyle changes. You’ll get one free Change Faction token at city hall level 10, then any additional changes will cost 10,000 gems.
There are plenty of reasons why you might want to switch factions. Some players make the change to take advantage of late-game factions that perform better in PvP, while others prefer to use different special units, such as switching from flying magic units to flying marksman units. You might also just fancy a change in city aesthetic if things are starting to feel a bit repetitive.
Note: Changing factions won’t affect your starting hero. All heroes you’ve unlocked will remain the same.
To change factions, you must ensure:
No legions (including scouts and rallied troops within your city) are outside your city
Neither your city or your legions are in combat.
No legions are currently being trained in your city.
Once you change factions, the game will restart and the new city aesthetic will take place. Your new special legions will also be available.
Summary
Choosing the right faction at each stage of the game in Call of Dragons can give you the boosts you need at the right time.
As you progress, it’s common to switch factions based on your preferred playstyle, and hopefully this guide has given you the insight you need to make that choice.
At the end of the day, the “best” faction comes down to your personal goals, whether that’s faster early growth, stronger PvP performance later on, or simply a fresh change of style.
