Stimpaks and RadAway are essential for keeping your Dwellers alive and healthy, especially during wasteland exploration, combat, and incidents inside your vault.

In this guide, we’ll show you exactly how to produce, find, and manage Stimpaks and RadAway efficiently in Fallout Shelter.

Fallout Shelter is available on multiple platforms, but this guide is written with mobile players in mind – whether you’re on Android or iOS.

What Are Stimpaks and RadAway?

In Fallout Shelter, these two medical items have different purposes:

Used to restore health (HP) during combat and exploration to keep Dwellers alive.

Removes radiation damage (RADs). Radiation reduces your max HP. RadAway restores it so you can heal fully again.

You’ll use both regularly in the wasteland, during quests, and when dealing with deathclaw radroach or mole rat infestations.

How to Get Stimpaks and RadAway

There are four main ways to obtain them, Here’s how:

1. Build and Staff Medical Rooms

The most consistent way to generate Stimpaks and RadAway is by building and upgrading the correct medical rooms.

To produce Stimpaks, you will need to construct the Medbay, which becomes available once your vault reaches 18 Dwellers. For RadAway, you’ll need the Science Lab, which unlocks at 22 Dwellers.

Both rooms rely on Intelligence, so it’s important to assign high-INT Dwellers for fast and efficient production. Upgrading these rooms will not only increase your output but also expand your storage capacity, allowing you to keep more medical supplies on hand.

2. Find During Wasteland Exploration

When you send Dwellers into the wasteland, they can scavenge Stimpaks and RadAway as part of their loot.

However, they also use these supplies to survive, so don’t expect to bring many back unless you recall them before they run out. This method is useful for maintaining your supply but should be managed carefully, especially if your vault relies heavily on exploration for rare loot.

3. Loot from Quest Rewards

Participating in quests via the Overseer’s Office is another reliable way to earn medical supplies.

Many quests reward you with packs of Stimpaks and RadAway upon completion, along with other valuable resources like weapons, outfits, and caps.

Some quests even offer bulk medical supplies as bonus rewards, making them especially valuable for restocking.

4. Collect from Lunchboxes

Lunchboxes are rewarded through daily objectives, milestones, or purchased via microtransactions. These can contain a wide variety of resources and junk, including Stimpaks and RadAway.

While it’s a less predictable method, lunchboxes offer the chance to quickly increase your supply, especially in the early game when production rooms are still being established.

How to Manage Stimpak and RadAway Storage

You can only store a limited amount at a time. Your capacity is based on:

  • Number of Medbays and Science Labs

  • Their upgrade level

  • Dweller level on quests/wasteland runs (they carry more)

Tip: Always check your storage before starting long quests. If you’re capped, collect existing meds first.

Best Practices for Using Stimpaks and RadAway

  • Prioritise giving Stimpaks to low-HP Dwellers in combat rooms or on quests.

  • Use RadAway first before Stimpaks if a Dweller has heavy radiation, otherwise, you can’t fully heal them.

  • Don’t hoard too many, they don’t stack endlessly and can clog up rewards if you’re at cap.

Summary

With a good supply of Stimpaks and RadAway, your vault can thrive in the face of danger.  Focus on building production early, assigning intelligent Dwellers, and managing inventory to keep your Dwellers alive and exploring longer.
