As your vault grows, so does your inventory. Eventually, you’ll find yourself drowning in low-level weapons, outfits, and junk. Selling unwanted items in Fallout Shelter is a great way to free up storage space and earn caps.
This quick guide explains how to sell items, what you should and shouldn’t sell, and how to manage your inventory more effectively.
Fallout Shelter is available on multiple platforms, but this guide is written with mobile players in mind – whether you’re on Android or iOS.
How to Sell Items in Fallout Shelter
Selling items is simple and can be done in just a few taps:
1: Tap the Pip-Boy icon (bottom-right of your screen) and open the storage screen.
2: Browse through your Weapons, Outfits, and Junk.
3: Tap on an item you want to sell.
4: Tap the “Sell” button (you’ll see the cap value next to it). You can sell the whole stack of items if you have more than one.
Important: There is no sell confirmation button. Make sure you definitely want to sell the item before pressing the sell button. Items you sell can’t be recovered, so double-check before confirming.
What Items Should You Sell?
Not everything should go! Here’s a quick guide to help you decide:
Good to Sell
Duplicate low-level weapons (Rusty Pistols, BB Guns, etc.)
Basic outfits you no longer use
Common junk (if you’re not crafting or are low on space)
Avoid Selling
Legendary or rare items
Weapons with high damage or special effects
Junk needed for crafting high-tier weapons/outfits
Outfits that boost SPECIAL stats significantly
If you’re unsure about what junk is useful, check out our Fallout Shelter junk guide for a full breakdown of what to keep.
Managing Storage More Effectively
Selling isn’t the only way to manage a cluttered inventory, here are a few extra tips:
Build and upgrade Storage Rooms to increase capacity
Craft better weapons/outfits using junk instead of selling it
Train Dwellers with the Outfit Workshop to make use of unwanted gear
Scrap items instead of selling if you need materials more than caps
Summary
Selling items is one of the easiest ways to earn quick caps and clean up your inventory. Stick to offloading low-tier gear and duplicates, and be careful not to sell anything with long-term value. Combine this with crafting and smart storage upgrades to keep your vault organised and efficient.
