With the 1.0.41 Into the Wilds update, Call of Dragons introduced Gromara, a legendary Mage hero.
As a new hero with a wide range of talents, artifacts, and pets to choose from, you might be wondering how to build her. This guide covers everything you need to know to make Gromara as strong as possible.
Best Gromara Talent Tree Build
The talent tree setup below is the best choice for Gromara at the moment for open field battle. I’ve also included a garrison build if you want to use her for city defense, as she does come with this set of talents.
Gromara Skill Talent Tree
The skill talent tree build is great for dealing high amounts of skill damage. Work your way towards Thirst for Blood in the skill branch, picking up bonuses to skill damage and rage regeneration along the way (such as Spirit of Rage). Once you’ve done that, invest your remaining talent points into the magic tree to gain extra buffs like HP, march speed, and defense penetration.
Gromara Garrison Talent Tree
Gromara is the second magic commander to have garrison talents, with only Tohar having them before her. For the garrison build, you’ll want to invest all of your points into the garrison branch. Focus on Thorn Barrier and Formidable as your core garrison skills, while also picking up plenty of attack, rage, and damage reduction buffs along the way.
Best Gromara Pairings
Gromara will pair well with most magic heroes. There’s obviously certain ones that have better synergy with her than others.
Below is a list of hero combinations ranked from best to worst to help you find the most effective pairings. For a broader comparison of how these heroes stack up, be sure to check out our full Call of Dragons hero tier list.
Yun-Ming (Best Pairing)
Yun-Ming and Gromara were both released in the same update. Historically, heroes released together are designed to pair with each other, which is exactly the case here.
I recommend running Yun-Ming as the primary hero. While both share the skill and magic talent trees, equipping the Dragon’s Fate artifact to Yun-Ming is the better choice. It just makes more sense.
Thunderlyn
Thunderlyn provides strong skill damage buffs and also gives Gromara some much-needed AoE, since she normally only deals single-target damage.
Tohar
As mentioned earlier, Tohar is the only other magic hero that has the garrison talent tree. For a magic-focused garrison, these two are the best.
Liliya
Liliya is still one of the best damage-dealing mage heroes in Call of Dragons and also works perfectly well with Gromara.
Best Artifacts for Gromara
Below is a list of the best artifacts to use with Gromara to boost PVP performance and increase merits.
The right choice will always depend on your playstyle, the situation, and the role you want Gromara to fill. Each artifact offers its own strengths, so weigh them carefully. For a complete overview, you can check out our full list of artifacts here.
Dragon’s Fate
Dragon’s Fate is the newest mage artifact introduced to Call of Dragons. It was released in the same update as Yun-Ming and Gromara, with them in mind. It’s by far the best magic artifact in the game, but may not be easy to acquire straight away. If you have it, you will want to use this with Gromara to give her AoE damage.
Infernal Flame
Infernal Flame has been in the game for a while and is still one of the best damage-based artifacts for magic heroes. It’s easier to acquire than Dragon’s Fate and is a strong contender for Gromara. It works especially well with a Liliya pairing.
Phoenix Eye
An AoE artifact with high magic damage output. A great option if Dragon’s Fate or Infernal Flame aren’t available.
Thunder Elegy
An artifact built for control situations, as it silences any enemies it targets. Works great for AoE builds and pairs especially well with Thunderlyn.
Mirage Orb
Mirage Orb scales with skill damage, making it a very useful artifact if you’ve followed the build above.
Gromara Skill Levelling
In Call of Dragons, promoting a hero to higher star levels unlocks additional skills. When you use hero tokens to upgrade these skills, the improvements are distributed randomly rather than chosen directly.
Note: You can now lock skills in place. However, if you skip skill 2 and try to focus on skill 3, upgrades will still be randomly split between the two. This system only works when the skill you want to prioritise comes before the one you want to skip.
First, focus on getting Gromara’s rage skill Rend Flesh to level 5 before upgrading anything else. This is her main source of skill damage and also gives a solid 10% hero skill damage bonus at max level. You can safely lock this skill in place with skill lock and continue starring her up.
After this, she’s usable at 5-1-1-1, but you should aim for her awakening since she’s such a powerful hero.
Best War Pet Pairings for Gromara
To finish off this Gromara build, here are the best War Pets to pair with her. For a full breakdown of every option, be sure to check out our Call of Dragons War Pet Tier List.
