Have you made a mistake with your vault layout or want a fresh start? If you’re planning on cleaning up or just starting over, this guide explains how to delete a vault in Fallout Shelter safely and permanently.
Fallout Shelter is available on multiple platforms, but this guide is written with mobile players in mind – whether you’re on Android or iOS.
Can You Delete a Vault in Fallout Shelter?
Yes, you can delete a vault, but you won’t find a “delete” button in-game. Vault saves are stored locally on your device or in the cloud (depending on your platform), so deleting them requires accessing your save files or in-game vault list.
How to Delete a Vault On Mobile (iOS & Android)
1: Launch Fallout Shelter and do not enter any vault. Tap the “Vault List” icon to bring up a list of your vaults.
2: You’ll see a list of all your vaults (e.g., Vault 123, Vault 456).
3: Tap on the vault you want to delete until you see the checkbox. Once checked, press the “Delete Vault” button.
4: A prompt will appear asking you to confirm deletion.
5: Tap “Ok” to permanently remove that vault.
Note: This only deletes the save file for that vault, not the entire app or your other vaults.
What Happens When You Delete a Vault?
Deleting a vault:
Wipes that vault’s save file completely
Removes all progress, rooms, Dwellers, and inventory for that vault
Does not affect your other vaults, lunchboxes, or purchases
There is no way to undo this, once deleted, it’s gone for good.
Summary: Deleting Isn’t Always the Only Option
Sometimes, a struggling vault can be salvaged with better strategy or layout adjustments. But if you’re ready for a clean slate, deleting a vault is a quick and easy way to restart.
Just make sure you’ve backed up or taken note of anything you’d want to recreate in your new vault, like favourite room setups or naming themes.
