Gameloft’s Dungeon Hunter 6 has been available for a few months, and I’ve dedicated a considerable amount of in-game hours to it since its release. Now, with enough experience, I’m ready to share an honest review to assist new players in deciding whether this game is the right fit for them or not.
Character Classes
Let’s kick off this Dungeon Hunter 6 review by talking about character classes. Before embarking on your journey in Dungeon Hunter 6, you’re presented with a choice of six different character classes: Archer, Assassin, Mage, Warrior, Shaman, and Boon Sister.
In my initial playthrough, I went with the Assassin class, although the Archer was also under consideration. You can examine the attributes of each class by clicking on them individually, helping your decision-making process. Characters can specialize in attack, dexterity, control, survival, or defense. If you’re familiar with games like Diablo, you may have some understanding of these attributes, although Dungeon Hunter 6 doesn’t provide much explanation on this.
It’s worth noting that character classes are gender-locked, limiting customization in this particular aspect.
Cluttered User Interface
When you have selected your character class and enter the game, the user interface is one of the first things you notice when you start playing.
To be honest, the user interface in Dungeon Hunter 6 is a bit too busy. If you’re using a smaller mobile device like I am, the screen is filled with icons, making it feel cramped. When you first start the game, there are so many options that it’s hard to figure out where to go first.
If you’re short on time, like during a work break, you might end up just claiming rewards without actually playing. The game has lots of events, game modes, and challenges happening all at once, which can be more stressful than fun. Don’t get me wrong, if you plan to spend a lot of time on Dungeon Hunter 6, there are plenty of events to keep you busy. But if you’re looking for an easy and enjoyable gaming experience, they might need to tidy up the interface a bit.
Gameplay Overview
The core concept of Dungeon Hunter 6 revolves around collecting various characters, leveling up their skills, and engaging in fast-paced battles against hordes of enemies and formidable bosses in dynamic environments. Throughout your journey, you can employ a range of skills and utilize different equipment to aid you in your quest.
Fighting & Movement Mechanics
Players have complete control over their characters, activating skills and dodging attacks to focus on survivability or DPS. To speed up lower-level grinding for rewards, automatic skill activation is an option. However, for tougher enemies, manual control is recommended, especially if your power is not significantly higher than the enemy you’re facing.
Character movement is facilitated by swiping anywhere on the screen in the desired direction, and automatic walking to mission locations can be initiated by clicking on the mission. Skills are activated by pressing and dragging them across the screen, particularly if they are directional.
While the fighting and movement mechanics are solid, they aren’t entirely unique and have been seen in similar games before. Nonetheless, the developers have maximized the potential of smaller mobile touchscreens, making the experience effective and enjoyable.
